
About Warren Glowatski
Warren Glowatski, born April 16, 1981, is a Canadian from Saanich, British Columbia. At the age of 16, he became involved in the tragic 1997 murder of 14-year-old Reena Virk—a case that has drawn significant attention (including a the hit Netflix TV series: Under the Bridge) and reflection on youth violence in Canada.
At the time of the crime, Glowatski was just 16 years old and part of a group that assaulted Virk. After the initial attack, Glowatski and Kelly Ellard followed Virk to the Gorge Waterway, where Ellard held her underwater until she drowned.

Warren Glowatski was released from jail on full parole in 2010 and is now living as a free man.
Since he was granted full parole in 2010 he has supposedly lived a low-profile life, staying out of the public eye. During his time in prison, Glowatski participated in rehabilitation programs, connected with his Indigenous heritage, and received forgiveness from Virk’s family as part of a restorative justice session.
His parole conditions require him to keep authorities updated on his whereabouts, employment, and relationships. While details about his current location are not publicly available, he had previously mentioned plans to take a welding course and focus on rebuilding his life.

CRIMES COMMITTED
On November 14, 1997, Reena Virk, a 14-year-old girl of South Asian descent, was lured to an area under the Craigflower Bridge in Victoria, where she was subjected to a brutal beating by a group of teenagers known as the “Shoreline Six.” After the initial attack, Virk attempted to walk away but was followed by Glowatski and accomplish Kelly Ellard (now known as Kerry Marie Sim), who continued the assault. Ellard ultimately drowned Virk by holding her head underwater while Glowatski stood by and did not intervene.
CAPTURE & INVESTIGATION
Reena Virk was reported missing by her family, and her body was discovered eight days later in the Gorge Waterway. The investigation quickly led authorities to the group of teenagers involved in the initial beating. Witness testimonies and forensic evidence pointed to Glowatski and Ellard as the main perpetrators of the murder. Glowatski was arrested and cooperated with investigators, providing details about the crime
TRIAL & CONVICTIONS
Warren Glowatski was charged with second-degree murder and tried as an adult despite being 16 at the time of the crime. In June 1999, he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after seven years. An appeal for his conviction was dismissed in November 2001. He later admitted to his role in the crime, expressed remorse, and sought forgiveness from Virk’s family. Due to his efforts in rehabilitation and good behavior in prison, he was granted day parole in 2007 and full parole in 2010.
